Chapter Seven A Man's Footprints 第七章 一个人的脚印

1、One year, a terrible and strange thing happened. 2、I often walked on the beach and one day I saw some footprints in the sand. 3、It was very clear that they were footprints of a man! 4、I was surprised and very afraid. 5、I looked around and held my breath to listen. 6、But nobody was in sight. 7、With a gun in my hands I tiptoed and searched everywhere. 8、Perhaps this was a wild man who killed and ate other men. 9、Perhaps he knew me and was watching me from behind a tree. 10、Perhaps he wanted to eat me! 11、I was more and more afraid and hurried home.

1、I found all my guns and got them ready. 2、I began to make my fence stronger. 3、That night I could not sleep although I had guns beside me. 4、I did not leave my home for several days.

1、In the end, I had to go to the field and to milk my goats. 2、Later I went back to the beach several times and did not see any wild men or more footprints. 3、But I was still afraid for a long time. 4、I did not go far from my home and did not use my guns, for I did not want to make a lot of noise. 5、I could not forget the footprints, but I did not see anymore footprints,and gradually I grew less afraid. 6、I went around the island again and found a secret place for a new, safer home.

1、Then one year something horrible happened. 2、I went to the other side of the island again and walked along the beach. 3、Suddenly I saw men's heads, arms and other parts of bodies around on the sand. 4、I felt very ill and almost vomited. 5、From the remains of a fire I could see that some men had eaten other men. 6、I was both afraid and angry.

1、For many months I watched that beach carefully. 2、Once I saw the smoke from a fire. 3、Nine wild men were cooking and eating men on the beach. 4、They were dancing and shouting while they were eating. 5、About two hours later, they got on their boats and sailed away. 6、I was so angry that I decided that next time they came I would shoot them. 7、So I set up a watching tower and got guns ready near that beach.
